Co-Winners in Morris Icebreaker ‘Spiel
Canadian Women’s Stick 2023 Bronze medalists Gwen Smith and Lynne Rehbein (East St. Paul) and Betty Piotrowski & Dan Namba (Fort Garry) were the co-winners of the 12-team start-of-season Icebreaker bonspiel, September 12 at Morris.
The two teams completed the planned three-games-for-everyone event with perfect 3W-0L records.
In a draw described variously as innovative, creative and somewhat confusing, the twelve teams all played a pair of games to qualify for one of six ‘event final games’.
Terry Hunter (Ft. Rouge) and Ghislain Dupuis (Morris) were a third team to win their first two games but lost the A-Final to Smith-Rehbein. Piotrowski-Namba defeated Real & Guy Roch (St. Vital) in the B-Final,
Roch-Roch finished the event with a 2W-1L record, along with C-Final winners Chris & Lorne Hamblin (Morris), D-Final winners Britta & Fred Spiring (St. Vital), and E-Final winners Warren Johnson (St. Vital) & Henry Piotrowski (Ft. Garry).
Norm Magnusson & Resby Coutts (Ft. Rouge) got their single win in the F-final game. Roch-Roch, Jan & Charlie White (Morris), and Jim Rouse & Jim Webster (Warren & Stonewall) also had 1W-2L records.
Darlene Maywood & Melanie Shura (St. Vital) and Carol & Dale McEwen (Ft. Rouge) were winless in their three games.
